Nike will launch RFID as a new means of after-sales counterfeiting detection

The proliferation of counterfeit goods in the field of sports shoes has been very serious. In the past, various official shoes have introduced a variety of ways to combat counterfeit goods. In addition to lawsuits, claims and coalition government crackdowns, many sports shoe officials place safety buckles on their shoes, most notably StockX's small green logo. However, embarrassingly, counterfeiters have also copied the official anti-counterfeiting methods. Shortly after the launch of SockX's small green cards, a large number of high-imitation SockX green cards appeared in the market. If the anti-counterfeiting technology itself can not guarantee that it is genuine, then how can it be anti-counterfeiting?  
          

Recently, Nike's "Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG" black and purple toes and "Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG" black and green toes have also used anti-theft buckles. But Nike's anti-theft buckle is different from all the previous anti-theft buckles of sneakers. This time, Nike's anti-theft buckles include RFID tags and use RFID technology.            

Why does Nike use RFID for security?
           

There is a direct reason that Nike's official website can provide return and exchange services. A group of Nike customers, a group of irregular "exchange party", specially replace the received shoes with fake goods, and then go to the seller to exchange goods. Nike lacks an effective or fast way to check the authenticity of its products. Official website after-sales personnel are not fully able to identify the true and false, so the official website to prevent the replacement of fake goods is weak, which makes many "exchange party" can succeed.            

After Nike uses the RFID anti-theft card, it is difficult to have a large number of high-imitation Nike anti-theft cards on the market. In fact, forgers can easily make security cards that look exactly the same. As long as the mold is manufactured, it can be copied in large quantities, but if the RFID chip is embedded in the anti-theft card, it will be difficult. It's no use making tags that look exactly the same, because RFID can be set up to prevent itself from being copied and cloned by others, and can only be read, not tampered with.   
         

How does RFID prevent forgery?     

Firstly, every RFID chip has a high production threshold. Each RFID chip has a unique UID in the world, so the counterfeiters can not get the corresponding UID chip.    
        

Secondly, the information of each link of the product can be written into the RFID chip for storage, and the product can be traced back.          
  

Third, RFID can be made into fragile labels, mainly for wine, jewelry, tea, health products and so on. As long as the item is opened, the label will be broken and the counterfeiter will not be able to recycle it.            

Fourthly, using asymmetric encryption algorithm to get ciphertext, ciphertext is irreversible.Even if the forger obtains the only global ID, it will not crack the ciphertext.

 

Fifthly, especially the branch of RFID technology, NFC technology, has added some stronger characteristics on the basis of RFID. The only UID of 7 bytes is burned from the factory and cannot be changed. The ID number is unique. When the writing is complete, the data will be burned. No one (including the developers themselves) can change it. It can only be read and prevent 32-bit key protection from cracking and cannot be written without any authorization and it can also be equipped with the violence attack failure setting function. If set to three times, the chip will be discarded after three unsuccessful cracking attempts. Chip technology is one of the world's leading high-tech fields. The cost for counterfeiting is very high so basically, it will make counterfeiters stand back.          
  

Back to Nike, I actually looked at the characteristics of RFID anti-counterfeiting, and found that Nike is not really fully applied to RFID anti-counterfeiting, but simply and conveniently applied to employees to detect the authenticity of return shoes.
           

Sports shoes market has been very chaotic, many fake goods are full of it. It's not just Nike fakes that are rampant, but Yeezy fakes are also crazy. Although Nike has not done a good job in eliminating counterfeit products, we can see the new direction of counterfeit goods in sneakers industry from Nike's anti-counterfeiting behavior, which may trigger the application trend of RFID anti-counterfeiting technology in sneakers field.
